Iowa State University has a centralized system of animal care in which Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR) is responsible for the care of teaching and research animals on main and south campuses, (with the exception of the Horse Training Program supervised by Dr. Peggy Miller). LAR procures animals, animal care equipment, and related supplies and carries  out the policies of COAC as approved by the Vice Provost. The LAR Director, Dr. Joan Hopper, serves as the University's Attending Veterinarian. Dr. Hopper works in conjunction with the LAR veterinary staff to carry out the university's veterinary care program.

Our Mission: To provide exceptional care in an enhanced enrichment atmosphere for all animals under the supervision of LAR.

****GREAT NEWS: LAR is now able to offer a web based Animal Ordering program. ****

Please view the tutorial and begin using the program.  As of February 1st, we hope to have all orders placed via the website.  All animals must be ordered even if you are moving animals from your breeding protocol to research protocol.
